Clare of Capua is a Brazilian artist who works in-between the performing and the visual arts. PhD student in Fine Arts at the University of Porto, Portugal, MA in Arts (2010) and BA in Performing Arts (2006), both at Campinas State University (UNICAMP, Brazil). She worked as an actress for several years, acting in plays and a movie. In 2017, she began to dedicate herself to the visual arts, mainly through drawing, painting, engraving, video and photography interventions. She has participated in local (Brazil) and international group exhibitions. The observation of reality and its representation are the starting point of her work. Through the isolation of objects and figures in general, she explores themes such as the action of time, the tension between presence and absence and a possible narrative drive in the image. She has an artwork in the public collection of the Museum of Sexual Diversity, in São Paulo. She has participated in three international artistic residencies, in North Macedonia (2017, Iceland (2018-2019) and Belgium (2023). Her videos were shown in Brazil, Germany, Iceland, Romania, Portugal and Iran. She was born in the countryside of São Paulo, in 1984, but was raised in Mato Grosso do Sul, where she learned to draw with her mother.
