In this series of paintings, an old photograph of my grandmother as a child is transformed into multiple images. To discuss this work, I quote a brief excerpt from the curatorial text written by Tânia Dinis:

 

“The original image presents us with a totality: the child, the chick, the body, the chair, the hand, the space, the moment. In the small paintings, this totality ceases to exist as a single image. The artist focuses on parts of the photograph, crops them, enlarges them, and presents them to the viewer separately.

The hands become an image.

The feet become another.

A body, an object, a gesture, or a small space can take on an existence of its own.

It is as if a single photograph gave rise to a small album.”
